Developers eye Surf City for continuation of condos near NC 50

Plans to bring more condos to Topsail Landing on the Surf City mainland are underway for the NC 210 and US 50 corridor.

Developers Surf City Condominiums, LLC received a nod from city officials to construct two proposed buildings on two acres on the south side of Belt Road. The drawing for the project, titled Topsail Landing Phase II, shows each building having four stories.

It was approved by the Surf City City Council in March after review by the planning board. It is a continuation of plans drawn up for the Gateway Condos project, which began about 16 years ago.

City manager Kyle Breuer said it appears to be the last two buildings in the development. A start date has not been announced.

“They haven’t started or gotten all their permits yet,” Breuer said.

Currently there are over 80 units in three buildings on 5 acres. Future development will be similar. If built, it will be next to the waterfront development in Surf City.

According to city documents, this phase of the project did not advance in 2006 and was referred to the Technical Review Board to ensure that all current fire code requirements and utility specifications were met. respected.

The condos are interconnected with Gateway Plaza, which includes retail and restaurants. Some of them include Pet Supplies Plus, Surf City Barbecue, and Chug & Grub.

“It’s another opportunity to bring new residents to the city,” Breuer said. “It’s in a popular intersection and they have direct access to stores and retail.”
