As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, the residents of Onslow are considering deciding where they will celebrate the luck of the Irish.

St. Patrick’s Day, a celebration of the death of St. Patrick, is Thursday, March 17. However, many are planning events on the weekends before and after the holidays, to extend the celebration.

Here are nine St. Patrick’s Day events in the Onslow area.

Salty Turtle Beer Company

Salty Turtle Beer Company is located at 103 Triton Lane in Surf City.

“We’re doing giveaways for the first 50 customers, we’re launching an Irish Red, named Siren Sarah,” said Salty Turtle co-founder Daniel Callender. “It’s a beer we brew once a year for the season. We’ll also have CBT Food Truck. Usually they don’t come on Thursdays, but they pair up with us and they’ll have a St. Patty’s menu. Day too.”

Brew at the Barn

Half Moon’s Rustic Barn, located at 135 Batting Cage Lane in Jacksonville, is also hosting a St. Patrick’s Day event from 5-8 p.m.

The event will have a vendor’s market, food truck, farm animals, cash bar, lawn games and more, according to its Facebook page.

Cape Carteret St. Patrick’s Day Food Truck Rodeo

The St. Patrick’s Day Food Truck Rodeo will be held at 102 Dolphin Street in the Town of Cape Carteret on St. Patrick’s Day from 5-8 p.m.

Although the town is outside of Onslow County, food truck fans might want to make the 45-minute ride, more or less, to catch the rodeo.

The rodeo, according to the Town of Cape Carteret’s Facebook page, will feature Dirty Taco & Mas, Meraki Mediterranean Kafe, The Cheesesteak Hustle, Frank’s Franks, Frankie Baby’s Ice Cream, Baker’s Rise, La Cocina del Coqui, RL Street dogs and Two Crazy. Donuts.

St. Patrick's Day decorations are popping up all over the county.

St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt

A St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt will be held at the Zing Zumm Children’s Museum in Jacksonville on St. Patrick’s Day from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Her Facebook page says each child who turns in a complete scavenger hunt map will receive a small prize. The scavenger hunt is free with entry and no registration is required.

Old Chicago is located at 4157 Western Blvd, Ste 100 in Jacksonville, and is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day party on Saturday, March 19 from 4-8 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Day Kickoff at Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway

Coastal Plains Dragway is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day kickoff on Saturday, March 12. Doors open at 10 a.m. with timed practice at 11 a.m. Eliminations should follow.

Admission is $15 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Day Festival

The Emerald Island St. Patrick's Day Festival at the Plantation Mall in 2019 featured over 75 arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, rides, face artists, entertainment and plenty of family-friendly activities .

The Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Day Festival is a popular local festival taking place today, Saturday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Emerald Plantation Mall, located at 8700 Emerald Drive.

According to emeraldisle-nc.orgthe event “features live music, a beer garden, arts and crafts vendors, delicious food, and rides.”

Also new this year is a sports demonstration by Chain Reaction Sports and professional BMX rider Alex Johann, sponsored by Buy the Beach Realty and South Swell Surf Shop.

The website also says proceeds from the beer garden will benefit the Emerald Isle Business Association. The beer garden will open at 10 a.m. and is open to those 21 and older with valid ID.

St. Patrick’s Farmer’s Market

The Cedar Point Market, located at 1046 Cedar Point Blvd., will have a Farmer’s Market today, Saturday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to his Facebook page, there will be a variety of local artists and artisans. You can find local baked goods, CBD products, seasonal produce, fresh breads, alpaca products, baked goods, cookies, pies, lion’s mane mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, pasture-raised beef, chicken and pork, goat milk products and fresh eggs.
